At the July 17th, 2012 Council meeting, Council awarded the contract for police services to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Per the contract, the Brea Police Department was to provide police services until the contract's expiration on May 3, 2013.  However, due to a series of events the transition from the Brea Police Department to the Orange County Sheriff's Department took place on Friday, January 5, 2013 at 12:00am (0000 hours).  The daily rate for police services will be $23,609 per calendar day exclusive of any start-up costs. The cost may be modified to reflect cost increases or decreases pursuant to unresolved issues pertaining to potential changes in salaries and benefits for County employees.  It is expected that a cost savings will be realized as a result of the early transition. This cost is reflected in the staff report/contract links below, as well as the Second Amendment to the Agreement which authorizes an earlier transition, and the Start-Up Cost Reconciliation.
